Making the endodontic management of complicated canal systems simple, safe and predictable. A new approach with Hyflex CM and EDM files

 Speaker: Dr Antonis Chaniotis

Venue: Dusit Hotel

Date: Friday December 8th 2017 13:00– 17:00

Description:
The design and biological objectives of root canal treatment manipulation are well described in the contemporary art of Endodontics. Achieving these objectives in straight canals is considered a simple and straightforward procedure with all instrumentation systems available today. The problems of biomechanical instrumentation and obturation of the root canal systems arise when the internal anatomy of human teeth is rendered severely curved or even bifurcated and anastomotic. In such teeth, the accepted basic endodontic techniques and instrumentation protocols may be challenging to follow.
The aim of this workshop is to describe and practice a new instrumentation technique with Hyflex controlled memory (CM) and electrical discharge machined (EDM) files for the safer and more predictable instrumentation of severely curved and challenging canals systems
Workshop objectives
At the end of this workshop the participant will manage to
• Understand the biological objectives of root canal treatment manipulation in relation to each anatomical challenge.
• Understand and appreciate the controlled memory thermomechanical processing and electrical discharge machining for the manufacturing of rotary files.
• Understand the philosophy behind the new instrumentation technique
• Practice the novel technique in highly curved and doubled curved training blocks.
• Achieve a three dimensional obturation of the prepared root canal system by using greater taper gutta-percha points in combination with Gutta-flow bioseal.
• Take away tips and hints to use them in the everyday practice.

Synergy between 2Shape and EndoUltra: from theory to practice a solution to simplify shaping and cleaning improving the quality of the root canal treatment

Speaker Dr. Filippo Cardinali

Venue: Dusit Hotel

Date: Thursday December 7th 2017 14:00– 18:00

Root canal shaping and cleaning are two essential steps of the root canal treatment to achieve a positive outcome.
Nowadays the evolution of the instrumentation allows the operator to execute high quality totally mechanical root canal shaping and real efficient cleaning of the root canal system, allowing to get a goal that all operators chase: achieving high quality shaping and effective cleaning with less effort, in less time and safely.
The aim of the hands-on course is to show how nowadays this goal is achievable using the 2Shape, the new shaping system created by MICRO-MEGA, and the EndoUltra, a wireless ultrasonic device dedicated to the cleaning of the root canal system.
The main feature of the 2Shape is the heat treatment of the alloy, which combined the knowledge of MICRO-MEGA on the designs of the files such as cross sections, taper, helical angles and many other specifications led to the creation of a system consisting of only two very flexible and resistant to fracture file, that are able to shape also difficult canals respecting the original endodontic anatomy. The main feature of the EndoUltra is the simplicity of use thanks the wireless technology and the effectiveness of the cleaning.
The combined use of this two system creates the ideal situation for a correct root filling allowing the clinician to hit the goals of endodontic treatment and achieve the success of the therapy.
Attendees will have the opportunity to practice the teachings received using the 2Shape rotary files for the shaping and the EndoUltra device for the cleaning.

 Evidence Based Regenerative Endodontics.

Speakers: Dr Kerstin Galler  and Dr Shehab Saber

Venue: Dusit Hotel

Date: Thursday December 7th 2017     09:00– 13:00

Course description:

The aim of this comprehensive course is to highlight the emergence of the novel biological based approach used to manage immature non-vital teeth. For many decades, apexification has been the routine practice, and despite a literature replete with discussion, including recent artificial barrier methods, there has been no major breakthrough to improve this treatment.

Recently, two new clinical concepts have emerged. One involves a revitalization approach to achieve tissue generation and regeneration. In this method, new living tissue is expected to form in the cleaned canal space, allowing continued root development in terms of both length and thickness. The other is the active pursuit of pulp/dentine regeneration via tissue engineering technology to implant or re-grow pulps.

This course will overview these recent concepts with emphasis on the tips and tricks for the clinical technique used. It is of special interest to endodontists, pediatric dentists as well as general practioners.

After attending this course, each candidate will be able to;

  • Identify problems and past attempts associated with management of immature non- vital teeth.
  • Recognize key elements for regenerative endodontics.
  • Overview current literature from a tissue engineering perspective.
  • Identify the up to date, evidence based, clinical technique.
  • Prepare and place MTA apical plugs.

From Shaping to Sealing: Cutting edge endodontics

 Speaker : Dr James Prichard
Venue: Dusit Hotel
Date: Thursday December 7th 2017 9:00– 13:00

This course will teach delegates how to use recent advances in endodontic treatment to improve their patients’ clinical outcomes. Each delegate will have close supervision during hands-on training to maximise learning outcomes and time will be spent to give opportunities to address dentists’ questions and concerns.
Prof. Prichard will take the delegates through the principles and objectives of successful endodontic treatment, including the biological principles of canal preparation and its link to current thinking on irrigation and disinfection.
The limitations of previous thinking in endodontics will be addressed, which assumed that canals were round and that their preparations should also be. Delegates will learn how recent advances in NiTi metallurgy for the first time allow dentists to shape, finish and clean canals according to their true 3 Dimensional morphology. Delegates will see how you can not only clean far more of the canal system without sacrificing root dentine, but also fill it with ground-breaking new Bioceramics.

Aims, Objectives & Anticipated Outcomes
> Understanding the biological principles and objectives of successful endodontic treatment.

> Understanding why 3 Dimensional cleaning and filling of the canal can improve your clinical success rate.

> Learning about the new technologies behind the XP-endo range. Understanding how a single XP-endo Shaper file can instrument more of the canal more efficiently, generate less debris in the apical third and yet be less aggressive than traditional NiTi files.

> Learning about the clinical uses and outcomes with XP-endo Shapers and Finishers.

> Intensive hands-on training to help delegates successfully apply new technologies in practice.

> Understand how the new TotalFill Bioceramic materials change the philosophies of obturation and dealing with root repairs.

Bioceramics in Clinical Endodontics

 Speaker: Dr Josette Camilleri

Venue: Dusit Hotel

Date: Wednesday December 6th 2017 13:00– 17:00

Endodontic therapy involves the use of number of materials. The materials employed range from materials used to obturate the root canals namely gutta-percha points and root-canal sealers to root-end filling and perforation repair materials. The treatment success depends on how well these materials performed clinically to meet the needs of the particular procedure performed. Classically resin based sealers used in conjunction with gutta-percha points have been the gold standard and although no bonding is reported between self and gutta-percha the sealer ends micro mechanically to the dentine by penetrating the dentinal tubules and creating sealer tags. High success rates have been reported. For perforation repair and root-end filling the modified zinc oxide eugenol has shown considerable success. The introduction of mineral trioxide aggregation clinical dentistry has been revolutionary as the material is hydraulic and thus suitable for the particular clinical applications where control of moisture is impossible. Furthermore the highly alkaline environment created by hydration results in adequate antimicrobial properties and induction of cell growth and proliferation. Mineral trioxide aggregate has a number of disadvantages namely the claims of material impurity, tooth staining resulting form bismuth oxide, poor handling and long setting time. The new generation of tricalcium silicate-based cements known popularly as Bioceramics have improved properties and thus promise grater clinical success.

The aim of this workshop is to demonstrate the use of these materials for various applications in clinical endodontics.
